Template: Flexible Content

To use the Flexible Content template, first create a page and save it (you can Publish it or Save it as a Draft). Once it's saved, you can choose the page template from the Page Attributes section in the editor.

The Flexible Content template is also set as the default template for your homepage.

Template Overview

The Flexible Content template that can be used for many different things. As its name implies, it is flexible and customizable—you can have many pages on your site using the Flexible Content template, and each one could look totally different.

You compose the final output of your Flexible Content pages by using the template's various Sections.

Working with Sections

The Sections area of your page editor is where you can add, remove, and organize your page's various Sections. To add a section, simply click Add Section.

You can choose the Section Type from the menu that pops up. Each Section Type is covered in detail below.

If you want to remove a Section from your template, simply mouse over the section and notice that a plus icon ("+") and minus icon ("-") appear in the Section's title bar. If you click the minus icon, you can delete the section. To reorganize Sections, click the title bar of a Section and drag-and-drop it into a new position in the list of Sections.

Types of Sections

Hero Slider

The Hero Slider outputs a slider of image, video, or simple color-background slides that you can compose and reorder right within the Flexible Content page editor.

To add slides, click the "Add Slide" button, then you can fill out the fields described below. You can also expand/collapse slides and drag and drop to reorder them.  Each slide has the following fields:

  • Subtitle — Optional subtitle text that shows above the slide title.
  • Title — Optional slide title that shows below the subtitle and above the excerpt and button.
  • Excerpt — An optional excerpt of text that shows below the title, and above the button.
  • Button link — What the slide's optional button will link to.
    • If a YouTube or Vimeo URL is entered, then clicking the button will open that video in a modal.
  • Button label — The text of the slide's optional button.
  • Background options — What type of background the slide will use: color, image, or video.
  • Background image (Only shows when Background options is set to Image) — The slide's background image.
  • Background color (Only shows when Background options is set to Color) — The slide's background color.
  • Background video (Only shows when Background options is set to Video) — The Video ID (not the URL) of a YouTube video to use as the slide's background.
    • Note for background images/videos: The images/videos will scale to the browser size, so it is best to use images/videos that will not appear broken if the edges are slightly cut off on some browsers.
    • Note for background videos: On mobile devices, the video will not play. The Youtube thumbnail for the video will show as a background image instead.
    • Note about background video audio: Background videos will not play any of the video's audio. If you need audio, just use a background image or color, and use the video's YouTube URL as the Button link for the slide. When users click the button, the video will open in a modal and it will have sound.
  • Overlay opacity (Only shows when Background options is set to Video or Image) — How opaque the background image or video should be. This is useful for helping ensure the text and button on top of the slide are easily readable.

Section List

Outputs a list of Festival Sections.

  • Title — The section title.
  • Subtitle — An optional subtitle that shows below the title.
  • Background color — The background color of the section.

Featured Text

The Featured Text section renders text and (optionally) a button over a background image or color. It's great for highlighting important calls-to-action. If the call-to-action button is omitted, the Featured Text section is great for adding pull quotes to a page, for example.

  • Text — The featured text, which is centered in the section's output.
  • Button label — The text for the section's optional button.
  • Button link — The URL the section's optional button will link to.
  • Background options — Whether the background will be a color or an image.
  • Background image (Only shows when Background options is set to Image) — The image to use as the section's background.
  • Font size — The font size for the featured text. Note that this does not apply to the button text, just the featured text itself.

If you want to highlight a group of shows on your page, the Featured Shows section is the tool for the job. You can choose any number of Shows to feature in either a Slider or a Grid, which will display under a Title, Subtitle, and optional call-to-action button.

  • Title — The header of the section.
  • Text — An optional bit of text and/or HTML that shows under the title and above the CTA button and. Can be used as a subtitle, for example.
  • CTA Button Text — The text of an optional call-to-action button above the grid (or slider) of featured shows.
  • CTA Button URL — The URL of the optional call-to-action button links to.
  • Presentation — Choose whether to show the Featured Shows in a Slider or a Grid.
  • Shows — Choose which of your site's Movies, Special Events, and/or Programs to feature.
  • Button label — The text for the button underneath each show in the output. By default this is "Buy tickets", but can be anything you'd like (e.g. "Learn more", "Details", etc.)
  • Background Color — The background color of the section.

Search

Displays a search form. Note that the fields available at the top of the search results page can be edited under Settings > Website.

  • Title — The header above the search bar.
  • Fields — The search fields that will be displayed the user.
  • Background Color — The background color of the section.

Latest News

The Latest News section shows a customizable number of your latest blog posts.

  • Latest news Title — The title of the section.
  • Subtitle — An optional subtitle that displays below the title and above the grid of posts.
  • Button label — The text of the "Read More" button that shows within each post's grid item. This button links to the full post, and its text defaults to "Read More".
  • Number of items — How many posts to show!
  • Background Color — The background color of the section.

Sponsors

The Sponsors section type shows all the sponsors of the selected  Sponsor Levels.

  • Title — The section title.
  • Select Sponsor Levels — Which Sponsor Levels to list Sponsors from. You must choose at least one Sponsor Level.

Schedule

The Schedule section type outputs a grid of items that summarize the showtimes happening on each upcoming day with showtimes. Using optional "Day Overrides", you can even manually craft a day's summary.

Note: The date formats for this section type follow the date format set in Settings > General.

  • Title — The section title.
  • Description — An optional description/subtitle to display under the section title.
  • Day Overrides — These are optional custom sets of featured images and description for specific days in the schedule. The default behavior for a day with showtimes is to show the featured image from the earliest showtime in the day, and the default description is a comma-separated list of each scheduled show that day.
  • Schedule Page — The page on your site that has the full schedule of upcoming showtimes.
  • "See More" button text — The button at the bottom of the section links to the Schedule Page. This option lets you customize the text of this button, which defaults to "See More".
  • Background Color — The background color of the section.

Freeform Content

The Freeform Content section type is a useful section type that outputs a title and a section of customizable text—but it's not limited to just text. The content can include images, Oembeds, links, and simple HTML.

  • Title — The title/header of the section.
  • Content — The main content of the section, which can include text, images, video embeds, HTML, etc.
  • Text color — The text color of both the section header and of the main content.
  • Background color — The section's background color.
